We enjoyed a great one-night camp with a large group of enthusiastic Beavers. Many of the group were camping for the first time with the Scout group and they handled the experience with great spirit. Once the Beavers arrived, they stored their gear in the tents and piled into the hut as we invested four new members into the colony. Evan, Teddy, Gethan and Zee handled the ceremony perfectly… Teddy remembers his promise…
The Beavers headed off into GW Park for a pre-dinner hike. We walked up to Cow Pond, where the boys took a well earned breather.
Once back at the camp, the tents were lit up, burgers and sausages sizzled invitingly and we got the fire going….
The Beavers also enjoyed watching a film in the hut, before finally heading off to bed at about 11:00..! After such a late night we expected that the boys would not be up until at least 7:00 the following morning…yeah right…! As all the adults clambered out of their tents blurry-eyed, the kids charged about happily awaiting breakfast. Boj and Rob duly obliged.
After breakfast, we headed across the road to the rugby club for a great game of baseball followed by a very competitive football match. Camping is big part of Scouting, but for children so young to spend the night under canvas with no fuss was really quite remarkable. Well done to all the Beavers, we are lucky to have such a terrific group.
A big thank you to our intrepid group of parent helpers who gave up their weekend, so that the boys could enjoy theirs.
